Site History
Below lists the brief details of our website builds over the years. You can also read about the current build, Version 6.0.
Version 1.0
The first ever build of 1st Walsall Online was published in Autumn 1997 and at the time was a very basic design hosted on a free server. This provided very little disk space and a rather long complicated address was used to access the site.
Version 2.0
During Spring 1998 the design was modified producing the second build which was around till Autumn 1998 when the site was moved to a new web server leading to the next milestone in its history.
Version 3.0
Build three was developed making use of better services on the new server, mainly the larger disk space available which enabled the contents to be expanded. It was also a big jump at the time making use of javascript (programming code) to enhance the functions of 1st Walsall Online to the user. Version 3.0 also existed in two formats, a framed site and non-framed site.
Version 4.0
Although version 3.0 was well established at the time, it was lacking a few things, in particular interactive features such as online forms to contact the group. That was until Summer 1999 when the site was moved to another server and build four was developed.
Version 4.0 was one of the longest build to stay around since the birth of 1st Walsall Online, even surviving moving to another web server during its lifetime. It was also during this build that we obtained the domain 1stwalsall.org.uk.
Version 5.0
2002 saw a big identy change within the Scout Association including a new corporate logo and changing the structure of the Association. It was at this time that build five went into development to coincide with the new launch. Once again we also moved to a server which provided better facilities to host 1st Walsall Online.
The new image was launched in Summer 2002 however build five was not published until Winter 2003, still better late than never.
Version 5.0 saw the content radically change to reflect the new identity of Scouting and a major improvement by reducing the use of Javascript so that our website functioned as intended if Javascript was disabled.
