Youth Membership

The minimum age for Youth membership is 6 whilst the maximum age is 25. The age a person is upon joining the Scout Association determine which of the sections of the 6 - 25 Programme they will join.

Aged 6 - 8

The youngest section of the Scout Association are Beaver Scouts and here the emphasis is based upon the Beaver Scout motto "fun and friends".

Aged 8 - 10

The second youngest members are Cubs who get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, and collecting. They also get to go on trips, days out together with taking part in overnight camps.

Aged 10 - 14

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and be recognised for their own achievements. There are a number of awards and badges that helps them to find out about the world in which they live and provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes.

Aged 14 - 18

The fourth section are Explorer Scouts who get the chance to do many more activities often with other units from around the area. The Explorer Scout programme is designed to fit around other important aspects of life such as exams thus they may often meet at weekends.

Aged 18 - 25

The final youth section is the Scout Network. A member of the Scout Network could be a member of a local Network, a Leader with another Section, a Helper of Skills Instructor or even be a member in another capacity.
