What's the minimum age I can sign my child up for?

The Beaver Scouts are the youngest members of the Scout Association which caters for children aged between six and eight. For this reason six is the minimum age that a child must be in order to join the Scout Association

You can however register your child's interest in joining our Scout Group at any time. We can then contact you when your child is nearing their sixth birthday to see if they are still eager to join and hence start the arrangements for their first visit to 1st Walsall Scout Group.

What are the costs involved after joining?

There is a small fee collected at every meeting which we call subs. This money is used to cover the cost of running our Group including buying equipment to use at weekly meetings and covering the Groups expenses for example hiring equipment and covering insurance costs.

The other costs incurred are for trips, camps and occasional activities that members take part in. We believe that costs should not be a barrier to anyone taking part in Scouting. If you feel this is an issue, you can speak with one of our Leaders in confidence.

Do the Leaders and Helpers get a salary?

No they do not. The Scouting Association is a registered charity and everyone involved as a Leader or Helper gives their time voluntarily to Scouting.
