Adult Membership

The Scout Association is perhaps the largest organisation of its kind World-wide, however this would not be possible without the support provided from Adults. If you are aged 25 or over and interested in joining the Scout Association, there are many options available to you.

Leaders

This is perhaps the primary role that adults play. Leaders undergo a training process organised by the Scout Association which provides Leaders with the knowledge and skills to organise fun activities while also ensuring that everything is done safely.

The training progress does mean you need to have a little free time on your hands however it's definitely worth doing for the excitement and of course the many new friends you get to meet.

Helpers

Unlike being a Leader there are no rigorous training programs for being a helper. Often the Parents or family members of children involved in Scouting decide to become helpers however that is not a requirement. Helpers may take part in weekly meetings or work on a rota system in order to work around their own commitments.

Being a helper can act as an insight to the Scouting Association and sometimes a helper may eventually take the next step and become a Leader but this is entirely up to you.

Occasional help

For the majority of the time it can look like Scouting happens just once a week with the regular meetings taking place. However the reality is that Scouting happens all the time. This can consist of planning ideas, organising events and getting along with the every day issues in life such as managing finances and record keeping.

To this end there are almost always opportunitys for people to help out in some way for example helping setting up an activity day. This kind of work requires occasional helpers who are available just a few times over the year so ideal if people want to take part in Scouting but have other busy commitments in life.
